Five DUI Arrests Over Labor Day Weekend in Stafford County [Stafford County, VA]
Stafford County Sheriff’s deputies made five DUI arrests over Labor Day weekend, including two incidents involving crashes and another traffic stop on Interstate 95 that resulted in a drug charge.
The arrests occurred between Friday, September 4, and Sunday, September 6, 2026, according to a report published by Potomac Local News based on information from the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.
Five Drivers Arrested on DUI Charges
The first incident occurred at approximately 1:52 a.m. Friday, September 4, after a deputy heard a crash near Staffordboro Boulevard and Garrisonville Road. The deputy found 62-year-old Samuel Brown of Stafford near a moped that was on the ground.
Authorities reported signs of possible impairment, including an odor of alcohol, glassy eyes, and slurred speech. Brown was charged with driving under the influence, drinking while operating a motor vehicle, refusal to test, and driving with an expired registration.
Later Friday, at approximately 7:30 p.m., deputies responded to a crash on White Oak Road where a vehicle had left the roadway, entered a ditch, and struck property. Authorities said the driver showed signs of possible impairment, and a later breath test indicated a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit.
Jacob Fortune-Dever, 24, of King George, was charged with DUI, drinking while operating a motor vehicle, and two counts of destruction of property.
At approximately 1:49 a.m. Saturday, September 5, a deputy stopped a speeding vehicle on Kings Highway. Jenna Rose, 25, of King George, was subsequently charged with DUI and speeding after authorities reported signs of impairment and said a later test showed a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit.
Later Saturday, at approximately 4:07 a.m., a deputy stopped a vehicle near Onville Road and Ebenezer Church Road following a drunk-driving complaint. Thomas Jones, 53, of Alexandria, was charged with DUI and refusal to test.
I-95 Traffic Stop Leads to DUI and Drug Charges
Shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday, September 6, a Stafford County deputy stopped a speeding vehicle on Interstate 95.
Authorities reported that the driver showed signs of possible impairment and acknowledged drinking earlier. During the investigation, deputies also reported finding narcotics on the driver and open alcoholic beverages in the vehicle.
Willfredo Bermudez, 33, of Woodbridge, was charged with DUI, drinking while operating a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, reckless driving, and refusal to test.
The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office did not specify where along I-95 the traffic stop occurred.
DUI Charges and Virginia Accident Claims
The five arrests are a reminder of the potential risks impaired drivers can pose to others on Virginia roads, particularly during busy holiday travel periods.
When a suspected impaired driver is involved in a crash, any criminal case against that driver is separate from a civil personal injury claim. A DUI arrest, chemical test result, or other evidence gathered by law enforcement may become relevant to determining what happened, but criminal charges do not automatically establish civil liability or provide compensation to an injured person.
Someone injured because of another driver’s negligence may be able to pursue compensation for medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, and other losses, depending on the circumstances.
Evidence from the crash and subsequent investigation can become important when determining fault and evaluating a potential injury claim.
