A 19-year-old Stafford man is facing criminal charges after deputies say he deliberately drove the wrong way in an attempt to strike another vehicle before rear-ending it early Saturday morning on Richmond Highway in Stafford County.
What Happened
At approximately 2:32 a.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2026, Stafford County Sheriff’s Deputy Edwards responded to a crash in the area of Richmond Highway and Hospital Center Boulevard. According to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect drove his vehicle in the wrong direction in an attempt to strike another vehicle. The suspect then rear-ended that vehicle at the intersection of Courthouse Road and Wyche Road.
Joshua Daniels, 19, of Stafford, was arrested and charged with simple assault and battery and aggressive driving. He was released on an unsecured bond.
Aggressive Driving in Virginia — What It Means Legally
Aggressive driving can carry criminal consequences in Virginia when the circumstances meet the requirements of state law. In this case, authorities reported that Daniels was charged with aggressive driving as well as simple assault and battery. The charges are allegations, and the criminal case will determine whether he is ultimately found responsible for those offenses.
When dangerous driving results in a collision and injuries, an injured person may also have grounds to pursue a separate civil claim. Compensation may include medical expenses, lost income, pain and suffering, property damage, and other losses, depending on the circumstances.
Criminal charges and a civil injury claim are separate matters. An arrest or criminal charge does not automatically establish liability or provide compensation to someone injured in a crash.
